The voice-over narrates “they first planned to leave for Kurdistan and Taiwan to direct a movie about their parents home countries. This should have been a tale of belonging, a tale of closeness between Taiwanese and Kurdish existences. A tale of statelessness and its echoes transcending through generations and distance. The events that unfolded at last changed them as they confronted the diasporic reality untold by the going back trope.”
“Un Instant Ébloui de Soleil” is a feature length documentary directed by Carla Alis and YiLu Guillemot. The film is part of a broader research project titled “Derik, Mardin ça fait un peu Paris, Texas” that investigates kurdish narratives and representativeness in cinema.
